Spine -chilling wrecks but Haunting-ly Beautiful

Naval history is full of fatal accidents and wartime losses.

In fact, according to a United Nations report, there are more than 3 million shipwrecks on the ocean floor.

Some of them would disintegrate, be unexplored and unknown.

Fortunately for us, many of them have been catalogued and photographed.

 

A scuba instructor, Thomas Gronfeldt had written an article about haunting wrecks on www.scubadiverlife.com

He had presented  ” Top 5 haunting wrecks”.

The selections of the haunting wrecks are based on the tragic histories.

  there are more than 3 million shipwrecks on the ocean floor.

  •  Haunting wreck 1: MV Salem Express  in the Red Sea, Egypt.

The ferry sank on December 17th 1991  hitting the reef.  470 people died.

During a dive ,you would be able to see cars and luggage , a reminder of the lives lost.

  • Haunting wreck 2: Shinkoku Maru, present in Chuuk Lagoon, Micronesia

It is the wreck of a Japanese Navy, a tanker. It sank after being attacked by US forces. There are a lot of wrecks on Chuuk Lagoon because of the war.

Thomas described this wreck as one of the most haunted as there are still human bones in it.

  • Haunting wreck 3: Kanka Wreck in Red Sea Egypt

Khanka wreck was a Russian spy boat used during the Cold war.

How this ship sunk still remains a mystery today.

  • Haunting wreck 4: Defiance in Lake Huron, United

Best ship wreck in the Great Lakes .It was a schooner. Defiance collided with another boat and fortunately everyone was rescued.

” The two wrecks are in a good state.” says Thomas. One can still see the sails swaying with the currents while diving.

  • Haunting wreck 5: MS Zenobia, Cyprus

A Swedish cargo sank during its first travel near Cyprus.

It was due to an engineering problem.

Thomas had described a feeling of mystery around this wreck.
